3. Morimoto Hokkaido Pound Cake

4. Kinotoya Kurosengoku Florentines

This florentine biscuit uses Hokkaido black soybeans (kurodaizu). Kurosengoku daizu were first cultivated in the beginning of the Showa era (1926-1989), but after a while the plants were driven almost to extinction. After that, thanks to the work of volunteers, the plants managed to make a come-back and now they're sold as high-class daizu. The crunchy texture and the fragrance of the beans makes this a very delicious snack.

5. Letao Naigara 

This white chocolate treat uses Niagara grapes from Hokkaido. Letao is famous for their cheesecake but this candy is also recommended. The gummy texture will help spread the refreshing grape fragrance to every corner of your mouth. It's also delicious chilled.

6. Ryugetsu Sanporoku

This baumkuchen was created in the image of wood using white and milk chocolate to coat the exterior. 8. Mitsuboshi Yoitomake

This roll cake made with honeysuckle jam is one of Mitsuboshi's best-selling products. The outside is coated with the jam so it's been introduced on television as Japan's hardest to eat snack, but the taste is top-class. The sweet castella cake and the sweet and sour jam work together perfectly.

This cake uses a lot of Hokkaido cheese. It has a texture like a souffle so it's a melt-in-your-mouth treat. The main store is in Hakodate but there are branches in Sapporo and if you tell them it's a souvenir they'll wrap it in a refrigerated package so you can buy it on your way home from your trip. This is a baked sweet from Ishiya Confectionery, the same company that makes the famous Shiroi Koibito. It's a madeleine-like treat that uses butter, white chocolate, and cheese powder all kneaded together, then it's baked until the outside is crisp and fragramt. This is a limited, Hokkaido version of that representative of all Japanese chocolate sweets, Black Thunder. In the Shiroi (white) version, the outside is coated with white chocolate made with Hokkaido milk.
