1. Guesthouse Hakone Nennekoya (Miyagino)

Guesthouse Hakone Nennekoya is located in Miyagino, which is a place that is surrounded by wonderful nature. From the guest house, you'll be able to walk to many sightseeing spots, such as the Hakone Open-Air Museum and YUNESSUN.

There are two Japanese-style tatami rooms: a female dormitory and mixed dormitory room. The building was once a traditional house, but it was recently renovated as a guest house to accomodate visitors. Even so, you can still see many of the unique quirks of a traditional Japanese house, so you'll have a great experience while staying here. Hotel Hakone Terrace Annex is a Japanese-style hotel located only a 4-minute walk from Koen-Kami Station, and a 8-minute walk from Gora Station. It's also within walking distance from Hakone Museum of Art. Hotel Hakone Terrace, the hotel's Western-style building, is just down the street about a 2-minute walk from its Japanese counterpart. Check-in for Hotel Hakone Terrace Annex is actually handled at Hotel Hakone Terrace. 

The rooms at Hotel Hakone Terrace Annex are very spacious, with all of the rooms equipped with a kitchen and a dining area, so it's great for those who plan to stay for a longer period of time. Depending on the room type and time of the year you visit, prices of the rooms range from 11,800 to 29,160 yen.

5. Hakone Kuranju (Motohakone)

Hakone Kuranju is a small, cozy hotel hidden up in the mountains of Hakone. There are a total of 9 rooms: the standard twin, deluxe twin, and suite room. There are two outdoor onsen that are available to all guests for 40 minutes at a time, so make sure to reserve a time at the front desk during check-in.

The hotel is a little bit out of the way, but if you are planning to access the hotel by public transportation, the hotel staff offers pick-up services at 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm and 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Contact them in advance if you need them to pick you up.

6. Fuji-Hakone Guesthouse (Sengokuhara)

Fuji-Hakone Guesthouse is a family style Japanese inn, located only 1 minute away from Senkyoro-mae bus stop. All of the rooms are traditional tatami style rooms with futons. The rooms are not equipped with a bathroom or toilet. Guests are free to use the indoor onsen, but if you are interested in the outdoor onsen, it is an additional 500 yen per person for 30 minutes. Alternatively, if you want to drop by just for the onsen, you can use it for 1,350 yen per hour from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.

The staff here can speak English, so ask them if you need advice on places to visit in Hakone. From the guest house you can easily access Hakone Botanical Garden, Lalique Museum, and Hakone Venetian Glass Museum.

7. Guesthouse Azito (Yumoto)

Hakone Yumoto Guesthouse Azito is an inn in Yumoto with a stylish bar. It's made up of two buildings: the main building, an old building that was renovated, and a separarte building right next to the main building, which opened in March 2017. There are various rooms you can choose from such as the economy single room, the standard Japanese-style quadruple room, the capsule room, or an apartment.

Klingel Baum is a cozy, small hotel that has been in business for 35 years. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, all the rooms were recently renovated. There are a total of 9 rooms and all are Western-style with beds, private toilets, and a bath. They provide various amenities such as a TV, air conditioner, dryer, towels, and toiletries. In addition, there is free coffee and tea in the dining area and a lounge space on the first and second floor.

There are also 2 outdoor onsen which you can reserve free of charge. All you have to do is ask for the keys at the front, and you can enjoy a relaxing bath all to yourself, while gazing out at the calming greenery of the outdoors.

10. Moto-Hakone Guest House (Motohakone)

Moto-Hakone Guest House is a small Japanese family style inn which has been in business since 1991. It's only a 1-minute walk from Oshiba bus stop, and is in a very convenient location near Lake Ashi. While there are no onsen here, it's only a 15-minute bus ride to the popular onsen amusement park YUNNESUN. 

All the rooms are tatami style, and they'll even provide you with a yukata (Japanese bathrobe) and towels so that you'll be able to rest comfortably during your stay.

11. Kinreisou (Gora)

Kinreisou is a 3-minute walk from Koen-Kami Station and is a 7-minute walk away from the Hakone Museum of Art and Gora Park. Guests are free to use the hot spring bath but note that the hot bath and bathrooms are shared with other guests. If you decide to stay here, you will have the opportunity to eat a Japanese style breakfast and dinner as well.
