Win A Trip With JAL Promotion
In anticipation of the influx of visitors for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) is holding a whole range of promotions and events as part of their Your Japan 2020 project. If you're coming to Japan this year, you may be able to save some money or get a little travel inspiration by browsing their offers.
Among these promotions is the Win A Trip With JAL promotion, which is designed to encourage visitors to see more of Japan by offering up to 100,000 seats (50,000 round trips) on domestic flights for free to foreign visitors. These free seats will be available on flights between July 1st, 2020 - September 30th, and unlike similar competitions, there is an interesting twist.
When you apply for the Win A Trip With JAL competition, you'll be shown an assortment of four potential destinations. If you don't like them, or want to try your luck, you can search again to be shown another assortment. Once you have four destinations you like, you can submit your application. JAL will tell you which of the four you've won within three days of your application.
You can apply in a group of up to four, and there is some flexibility on departure and arrival times available to choose from. These considerations should help make one of these free jaunts to an unexpected destination a bit easier to fit into your travel plans!
Points to Keep in Mind
There are a couple of conditions that are important to keep in mind before applying. The first is that you must be a JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) member to apply.
The other important point is eligibility. This promotion is only available for visitors coming to Japan between June 1st and October 31st, 2020. You will need to give your departure date and flight number of your flight into Japan when you apply, so this promotion is definitely geared towards people who are already booked into coming to Japan during these dates. Another factor to keep in mind is that that flights are only available at Haneda Airport in Tokyo or Itami Airport in Osaka. In other words, if your travel plans are already set in stone, or you're nowhere near either parts of Japan, it may not be worth applying.
Unfortunately for Japanese residents, this also means the promotion is only available to non-Japanese residents holding a temporary visitor's visa. Even if you're not a Japanese citizen but are in Japan on a longer-term work, student, or spouse visa, you won't be able to use these promotion tickets. However, if you do live in Japan and are a JMB member, you might be interested to know that this promotion uses the Dokokani Mile (Go Anywhere) system. This system works in a similar way to the Win A Trip With JAL competition and gives 60,000 free miles off the cost of domestic tickets. You can find more info about this service for JMB members in Japanese here.
There are a number of other conditions, so be sure to give them a read before applying to avoid any disappointment!
Conclusion
If you're coming to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, or just for a visit, this promotion is definitely a rare opportunity to expand your trip for free. If you're lucky, you may just get a free flight to a dream destination or discover a hidden gem for yourself! Applications will open in late February, so keep an eye on the official site for further updates. If you do choose to enter, we'll keep our fingers crossed for you!
