What Makes Häagen-Dazs in Japan Special?

Häagen-Dazs ice creams are available around the world, but Häagen-Dazs Japan offers such a wide selection of flavors, it is said that it has two to three times more variety than in other countries. New flavors are released each season, which many fans eagerly await.
Häagen-Dazs Japan offers flavors using ingredients commonly used for wagashi (traditional Japanese confections), such as matcha green tea, adzuki (red beans), kinako (roasted soybean flour), and mochi—so they are actually a great way for people who are not used to wagashi to try Japanese sweets.

No. 5: Melty Maple & Cookie

Stick your spoon deep inside, and you\'ll be rewarded with a melty maple sauce! The ice cream that is mixed with this sauce has a rich and soft milky flavor that goes perfectly with the maple sauce. There are butter cookies embedded in the ice cream that accent it with their salty flavor, aroma, and texture.

No. 4: Hanamochi Ginsen Kinako Kuromitsu

"Kinako mochi", which is kinako on mochi (sticky rice cake), is a popular wagashi. Put kinako mochi on ice cream with kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup), and you get Hanamochi Ginsen Kinako Kuromitsu. What a novel idea to have kinako mochi on ice cream!
There is special care taken in the selection of the kinako in this ice cream. The kinako in the ice cream is deep-roasted kinako with a nutty aroma while the kinako in the mochi is made from two different types of soybeans that have been roasted lightly to give off a rich aroma. They go perfectly with the rich kuromitsu.

No. 3: 35th Anniversary Flavor: Midori—Koicha

This is highly recommended if you like the standard Green Tea flavor. It has been released for a limited time to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Häagen-Dazs Japan. "Koicha" is a type of matcha that is served at formal Japanese tea ceremonies.
Just increasing the amount of matcha in an ice cream will simply make it very bitter, so the tea leaves used in Häagen-Dazs\'s Koicha are first-harvest leaves cultivated specifically for the ice cream. This flavor, made with great attention to detail, has a richer taste than the standard Green Tea flavor and is a great way to enjoy the natural sweetness and bitterness of matcha.

No. 2: Crispy Sandwich Fondant au Chocolat

The Crispy Sandwich, which was created in Japan in 2001, has become a huge success globally. The Fondant au Chocolat is a new Crispy Sandwich flavor.
Take a bite into the crispy outer layer, and the chocolate sauce will flow out accompanied by a rich chocolate aroma—just like a fondant au chocolat. Both the ice cream and coating are made with Belgian chocolate; the chocolate in the coating has a 70% cacao content. This is a chocolate ice cream for adults that is more than just sweet.

No. 1: Strawberry Brownie Parfait

Slightly bitter brownie bits speckle a lovely, fragrant vanilla ice cream, and a sweet and sour strawberry sauce adds an accent. Befitting its claim to be a parfait, this is a luxurious ice cream with three layers of flavors.

Häagen-Dazs has many ice cream flavors that are unique to Japan. New flavors are introduced each season, so be sure to check the ice cream isle of convenience stores and supermarkets when in Japan.
