Washi is traditional Japanese paper renowned for its durability and excellence as a medium for calligraphy. Nishikawa Shigyo, a family-run company in Kyoto that hand-makes a huge range of paper products wants to bring the joy of writing on washi into people’s everyday lives by creating something familiar—a journal—using an old-fashioned Japanese washi booklet as the base.
Introducing the Nishikawa Journal, a modern washi journal that stays true to its traditional roots. It comes in three variations with plain paper, lined paper, or dot grid paper, and can be stored in a customizable washi case so you can show off your personal style. The pages can be turned one-by-one like a normal bound journal, or pulled apart to form a longer piece of paper to write, draw, track, or brainstorm on!
Nishikawa has long been providing their products to businesses, temples, and shrines, but has not sold products directly to consumers before. Since this is their first try at making a consumer product, they are launching it on Kickstarter!
Nishikawa has designed the journal, made prototypes, and is ready to produce a large batch, and now just need to gather funding on Kickstarter to help make the project a reality.
