1. Tako Patie by Hyogetsudo

The Tako Patie is a confectionery with the authentic taste of takoyaki (octopus dumplings). It is a strange dessert with a crispy pie as base, topped with green dried seaweed, katsuobushi (bonito flakes), sauce, and mayonnaise, and then covered in walnuts and caramelized syrup. The first bite tastes like takoyaki, but the caramelized syrup turns it into a confectionery. It is really a souvenir that wonderfully represents the concepts and new sensations from Osaka. You can carry it with you at room temperature, and it lasts long in storage. You can get the Tako Patie at Osaka Station, Shin-Osaka Station, Osaka Itami Airport and Kansai International Airport.
Price: 540 JPY (incl. tax) for a set of 12 pieces

2. Kokyu Chocolate by Marushige

Kokyu Chocolate is a chocolate that is named after the feeling that you “must eat it while it is still fresh, just like breathing.” With this chocolate delight, fragrant almonds are wrapped in mascarpone cheese cream and then coated in ultra-fine powder. It is light on the sweetness, so it goes well with alcohol. This confectionery comes in Kitashinchi (cocoa), Gion (matcha), Nara Yoshino (kinako soybean flour), and Kobe Kitano (coffee) flavors, but you must try the strawberry flavor that is only available for a limited time. It is a delicate confectionery, so you need to be careful when carrying it with you during hot summer days. Kokyu Chocolate is available at the Marushige shops inside Osaka, including the ones at Whity Umeda and Namba Walk.
Price: 645 JPY (incl. tax)

3. Kuidaore Taro Mayo Okaki (Amakuchi Mayonnaise Flavor)

Kuidaore Taro Mayo Okaki is a mayonnaise-flavored okaki (rice crackers made from glutinous rice) inspired by Kuidaore Taro, a mascot that boasts immense popularity in Osaka’s Dotonbori district. It is extremely famous, even among the many souvenirs available in the region. This crispy and aromatic okaki has a delicious mild sugar-soy-sauce and mayonnaise flavor that will make you want for more. Inside its bag, the okaki are individually wrapped, so they’re easier to eat. When you eat it, look at the cute drawing of Kuidaore Taro and parts of what looks like a story that starts with a-i-u-e-o (Japanese syllabary). It is available at the Nakaza Kuidaore Building and at the major train stations and airports in Osaka.
Price: 410 JPY (incl. tax)

4. Pringles Kansai Gentei Takoyaki Aji

This variant of Pringles, a brand that is hugely popular worldwide, is only found in the Kansai region. It is a local product that bears the image of takoyaki on its packaging. You will love its smell of fragrant takoyaki sauce that will float in the air once you open the can, and its new delicious taste that is created by the sense of generous amount of mayonnaise, katsuobushi, and red pickled ginger. This special flavor that is only available in the Kansai area comes in a set of three cans inside an original box, making it perfect as souvenir. It is available at major JR stations, souvenir shops, service areas and parking areas.

5. Yoku Suberu

Yoku Suberu is a parody sweet that looks exactly like an over-the-counter drug. When you “drink” it, it will slip when you talk, causing you to break into a wry smile. It comes in various series, including the Omoshirokunaru that will get you big laughs when you talk, the Shiawaseninaru that will make it easy for you to see a four-leaf clover, and the Horeyasukunaru that will make you recover from lacking palpitations. While it resembles over-the-counter pills, inside, you will only find Ramune-flavored (lemon soda) sweets. It is available at the Yoshimoto Entertainment Shop. This is the kind of souvenir that one can only expect from Osaka, the land of laughs.
Price: 540 JPY (incl. tax)

There is a wide variety of souvenirs from Osaka, from fun items to authentic sweets, and most of them come in a flashy packaging. The above list is a compilation of the popular sweets in the region that are unique but a bit unusual. Go ahead and use this list as your reference when buying souvenirs in Osaka.
